| Customer Reviews: Excellent quality, great price September 15, 2009 S. Kittinger (Southeast USA) These are way better than the generic or Adorama brands. Even on Adorama's website, their own brand of reel has horrible reviews. I bought a generic brand first because it was cheaper, but that was a waste of money and film! Even in daylight, I could not get the film to load on the generic brand. I finally did some research and found these (Hewes brand). Who knew that there could be such a huge difference in quality?? The Hewes brand practically loads itself. If you are using plastic reels and are thinking of switching to stainless steel, don't go for the cheap ones, you will just waste your money and ruin your film. The Hewes brand is easily worth the money. Instead of a spring clip to grasp your film, it has two prongs that catch your film by the sprocket holes. Loading is a breeze from there. Again, I don't know why the generic ones are even being made. The person who designed them obviously knows nothing about film and how the stainless steel reels are supposed to work. The Hewes brand is a great product and is a breeze to use.
Just works February 27, 2009 P. Karpenko (CA USA) Unlike many generic reels, this one just works exactly as it's supposed to -- film simply goes in on the first try. The prongs that hold the film sprockets are ingenuios too. The twelve dollar difference between this piece of engineering and inferior generic alternatives is well justified.
Top reel choice June 21, 2008 Drew Davis This is a top notch reel. Made of quality stainless steel for durability and made of thicker metal than other brands to help prevent bending. Has a very easy clip to assist in rolling your film up. I've tried the Adorama reel and it paled it comparison. I would definantly recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality reel.
Great reel for home darkrooms April 17, 2008 Frederick E. Hutchings 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a replacement for the reel that came with a tank I purchased. The tank is good, but the reel wasn't (I think Chinese made). Anyway, this reel is heavy duty, and film loads easily - though loading anything in a changing bag takes some practice.
