A well-rounded Piece of Equipment September 8, 2010 Serenity808 (The Planet Earth) 4 Months ago I bought 2 tripods; a Sony and this Dolica. Upon it's arrival I immediately noticed the impressive paint job. It's not carbon, but it sure is nice.
I have taken pictures in the sun, the rain, on mountains, in forests, and even partially submerged in the ocean. It hasn't given me any serious problems yet. It's actually better than all of the non-fluid head tripods that I've used.
I guess I was lucky when I received my order. The tripod came with everything; case, manual (didn't need it), hex/allen wrench, and the good old box.
It is a trusty tripod, and one of the best investments I have made this past year.
-They could've made the leg's locking mechanisms out of aluminum (not plastic).
-The quick release plate took a while to get used to, but once it's been used for a while then it's OK.
-The user must be aware when quickly closing the legs because they can hit the center member and get dinged up.
If I were to use a camera that cost more than say, $700, I'd spend the extra money and go Slik or Manfrotto--anything with a fluid head.
All in all, the tripod I received has been a reliable, durable, and moldable asset. There are some minor flaws, but the pros far outweigh the cons. I rate it a 4.5.
If you need a tripod and don't want to spend too much... September 6, 2010 Talamascaa Got mine in about a week ago and been using it about every day. It's very quality for the price. Highly recommend.
Great Deal September 4, 2010 J. Ambrose Little (Central NJ USA) I'm a total n00b in the photography hobby, but this looked like a good deal. It was! I was happy to be the envy of my more experienced photography hobbyist friends.
As far as I can tell, it has all the right features, it looks nice, is super lightweight, and it's easy to use. I am ordering another one for my office.
Not perfect, but a great value. September 4, 2010 A. Bruckse 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used this tripod for 8 months now, and I am quite surprised in how well it has held up. If it wasn't for that, I would probably give it 3 stars though.
Fit and finish is quite nice, even when compared to the true pro-quality tripods. As expected, the ball head isn't perfect, but is actually pretty nice for the money; But the mount/seat (more specifically, the female threads of the mount/seat) are not of great quality, so you may find a little extra movement after a lot of use. I remedied this with some Loktite and a bit more torque on the hex stud that goes through the ball. Being made out of aluminum, it is nice and light, but a little too light for confident use at full extension... I am always within reach of the camera when using this tripod. The leg locks are on the cheap side (no surprise there), but function well.
Overall, it's actually a pretty decent tripod for the money, but don't expect greatness if you plan on using more than occasionally.
If your a total beginner to photography, this tripod would probably work well for you. But if you are at a higher experience level, save your money.
Awesome for the money! September 4, 2010 Valdeeez I have been using this tripod for almost a year and I have no complaints. There are much better products out there but none that compare to this one for the price. I would highly recommend this to a non-professional photographer looking for a decent tripod!
